Holiday over, read all about it!

The holiday was quite different to what we expected because we modified our plans 'on the fly' to cater for the weather, which was much hotter than anticipated.

The only part of the plan we stuck to was to visit the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Not a place to go if you suffer from arachnophobia!

The museum building is very impressive and it has an excellent cafe-bar but the list of exhibitions on offer did not appeal so we contented ourselves with viewing the exterior.

By lunchtime the temperature was well above 30 Centigrade and the sun was so fierce that we considered putting the roof back up on the car. Instead we headed east on what has to be the most winding piece of motorway I have ever driven. At the legal limit of 68 mph there were bends that made the tyres squeal and on one bend an overtaking motorcyclist had his knee down on the tarmac. Loads of fun, and the breeze kept us a little cooler.

After a brief meander through San Sebastian and the surroundings while looking for a Geocache we crossed the border into France and headed for Biaritz for the night. The heat had come as a shock and the first action on reaching our room was to step under the shower. The second action was to remove my wet clothing!

Clearly we were going to have to accommodate the weather in our plans, and my next few posts will reveal how we did it.
